This commercial has always drawn my attention and brings me back to the topic we had a couple of weeks ago about the distortion of beauty we have in society. The majority of the time, many of us forget that these ads have been photoshopped and the models have cover-up covering all of their facial imperfections.
I thought this was a wonderful campaign by Dove. The video itself is pretty self explanatory.
Enjoy!
Thanks for the post! Can you send me an email at oddtrees@gmail.com with your name and the name of this post so that I can give you credit?
ReplyDeleteI also like the ad, but I have read that after this came out, Dove did in fact Photoshop some of the models for their "real beauty campaign"

and that their parent company, Unilever, also produces the AXE ads with a VERY different message:http://www.cbc.ca/streetcents/guide/2005/02/s07_01.html
WOW! This post is great. I only wish I could witness this commercial on live television. So many of these real beauty awareness projects seem to be wonderful ideas I only wish they could become more talked about and more present in our daily lives/billboards/TV/sponsors/etc.
ReplyDeleteIt is crazy what photoshop can do--it really seems to contradict the modeling career as a whole! I mean if anyone can turn into a magazine cover with makeup and some online editing cant anyone be a model? Why would our economy even need to pay for this career industry if anyone can fulfill it with tech *help*. I mean if the models we have area all edited anyways-- lets just make anime/digitized models and use the extra money for ...the environment? Lol
